Argh. I saw this one a couple of contests back, when looking for another answer. But I do not recall where....
Right town, wrong railroad. But I can see how the pic can make the guess "Haywire"........... BTW- the rune comment? Just to the east of Heavener is Runestone Mountain, where writings alleged (and disputed) to have been made by wandering Norse explorers were found on a stone tablet. The mountain itself makes for a great place to do some hang gliding. Plus, I've shot thru trains refueling on their trips between Shreveport and Kansas City. Carsten- the Arkansas Southern's ex-KCS branch to Waldron peels off south of the yard, so I can understand your confusion. The railroad that owns this yard has these four-axle Geeps to run their "Dodgers", especially the one to Ft. Smith rhat runs up the former Frisco from Poteau north thru the Sooner State's only RR tunnel to Ft. Smith.
Would it happen to be the Kansas and Oklahoma Railroad? Running on leased track from the KCS? Heavener, OK to Waldron, AR.
Give that man a cigar! Yes indeed, it's the KCS Heavener yard, a refueling and crew-change point. South of here trains climb the Rich Mountain grade, and just to the north of this picture, freights refuel at a "gas station" located on the main line.
Well, rats. Skunked again! I've got to figure out a way to peek over Carsten's shoulder when he's researching.
