Yes. Neither island is really all that big.

Now... could I have missed it? Perhaps.

Where, you ask, have I been finding these ideas? Well, I went to Sandro's website and just started checking out places he has vacationed in the last couple decades, figuring that his sister might live in one of them. That's why I hit Tenerife, Cyprus, and so on.

    ok....some hints.

    - my sister lives in a HOUSE in charleston s.c. but she also owns an appartement elsewhere
    - this railroad is not in canada
    - it's not in the continental usa, neither hawaii
    - neither europe
    - otto might be onto something with his post
    - i've not yet been there, therefore no pics on my website
    - trains are still running. (on google maps you will find a train in the middle of nowhere if you follow the tracks north)
    - there's at least one active volcano within 300 miles

    Sandro,

    Thanks for all the hints!

With that help I did find it.

It is the island of Basseterre in the Leeward Islands of the Caribbean Sea. That airstrip is the Golden Rock Airport.

I had looked at Cuba and then when you said that your sister lived in the U.S., that ruled out Cuba! I then looked all the bigger islands in the area, until I found it.

    Good job, Dan Raitz!

I spent a good while looking, based on where Sandro has gone on vacation over the last several years. I missed this one.

congrats. it's st.kitts and the train is used to carry sugar cane, similiar to the one in maui. also there are tourist trains running.
the closest volcano is on montserrat, just a bit south. probably 50 miles. almost 50% of montserrat are covered with lava and ashes.

did you follow the tracks all the way to the north ? you'll find a tourist train :)

unfortunately i've not yet been to st.kitts.
