    We'll start off with a hint; There is something "famous" visible in the second picture.

    I looked in a bunch of wrong places, and then I noticed some eerie similarities to contest #1...

    It's Volgograd, formerly known as Stalingrad.

    You can actually pick out the statue of Lenin in the square, lower right of the first photo. It's at the west end of the couple of blocks that contain the museum and memorial for the battle.
