I've uploaded some of my photos taken recent years, of GN depots in Washington, Idaho and Montana: http://www.train-orders.com/RFAN/RFAN.html Click on "Assorted Depots"
Good collection of depots. You even got the obscure ones out here. Its shameful what the Ephrata one looks like today. About the Coulee City one; I found some photos from the day they moved it from its original location: http://sdp45.blogspot.com/2011/10/coulee-city-moving-day-photos.html And the donation letter: http://sdp45.blogspot.com/2011/10/coulee-city-depot-donation-letter.html And the sales agreement: http://sdp45.blogspot.com/2011/10/coulee-city-depot-sales-agreement.html
The Radnor depot is really obscure. There are rumors of a couple others that same style in Montana. I just need to chase them down. Maybe this coming summer. There are more Pacific NW GN and others I want to capture and recapture. (I have some on slides from years ago.) But have not had the health or travel money these recent years. Rats. Dan- Interesting information you have there....
There was a guy at the Spokane Train Swap back in October who had been out and about in the late 60s and early 70s taking photos of depots all over the PNW. Not just stand there and snap one frame, but take a few steps, snap another, take a few steps, snap another, all the way around a bunch of depots. He got a bunch of my money that day. Dan
I've done that type of buying myself! Just wish i could confirm some of the rumor mill depots which suppsoedly still exist, off site. I have found a few over the years. But some have instructions so vague.. Also need to know- Is the VFW building at Elk actually the GN depot. It has all the signs of being so. Nobody around to quiz when I stopped there last trip. And, I need good directions to find the Milan GN depot. Supposedly it is a house, but that leaves a lot to be desired for someone searching and lacking time/health endurance to spend a lot of gas money... Also note the GN Sandpoint is missing- I got into a big chat session with someone at the NP depot, looked at my watch and bolted out of town. Was miles away when I remembered and oops.... Wah!!!!
Ken, Are you part of the SpokaneRH list at Yahoogroups? That would be the place to ask. If you are not, I'll ask for you.
Mike Denuty replied: "Yes, the Elk VFW Hall is the Elk WA GN depot, moved up the hill north/northwest from the track, with a basement added. "The larger Milan depot was moved east along the paved road coming down the hill from Riverside community. It is just northeast of the intersection, along the north-south paved road that goes toward Elk. Modernization projects have made the ex-depot less obvious, but I think it is the original size."
Dan- Many thanks! Come longer days, I am hoping to make at least a long days drive and catch a few more depot photos, chase a couple of rumors, see POVA again....
