Don't recall if this has ever been discussed- Anyone have a list of surviving depots, for eastern Washington? Moved? In place? How about Leavenworth? I know it's not trackside. But heard a rumor this might have been moved? Part of the Wenatchee depot still exists. Former baggage room or some such. Quincy? Otherwise, I can't think of any along the main line, west of Spokane? I think what is left in Wenatchee was once the lunchroom. Cashmere, Quincy, Ephrata (though downsized considerably), Leavenworth (now a Grange Hall), Mission (originally Cashmere, depot is on display in the museum there), Hillyard, Oroville, Skykomish, Winton, Withrow, Spokane clocktower.
There is supposed to be a GN designed depot in Waterville, WA, but was used by the Waterville Railway. I will be up there on the 21st at the fair, and I plan to cruise town in search of it.
Depot The depot in Skykomish is still there as of about a year ago. BNSF MofW crews use it as a base of operation on Stevens Pass.
I was through Skykomish on Amtrak about 6 weeks ago. The depot was moved, up on timbers. They're doing a cleanup from old pollution, and some of the town is boarded over. Boxcab E50
The sky depot is still on blocks waiting for the ground cleanup to continue. Word on the rails is BNSf is donating the depot to the city and BNSF is going to put a new pre-fab structure up somewhere in town for MOW crews. Kevin
I have found this site useful but not always 100% accurate... http://www.rrshs.org/Struct.index/strucindex.htm :tb-smile: :tb-smile: :tb-smile: :tb-smile:
Wrong side of the mountains, but I saw the Ballard depot today. Shrubbery is blocking much of it from view. It's present occupants don't appear to be taking the best of care... Boxcab E50
I did find the GN style depot in Waterville, WA last Thursday. Hard to miss it! It is currently being used as a residence.
The one over in Quincy is still pretty much intact from its GN days. It has a pretty impressive collection of newspaper clippings and photos from the last few decades on one wall.
We passed through there at a fair pace. As it was not illuminated like an open office, was unable to see more than a quick blur. Boxcab E50
A new rumor regaurding the Sky depot. The town does not have the money to fix it up so BNSF is going to put a basement under it and refurbish the depot so it will better serve the MOW guys and be a better operations center when things on the hill melt down. This came from the conductor on my check ride the other day, by the way I am now a locomotive engineer. Of coarse I do not have the seniority to hold a engineer job so I am still switching in Spokane. Kevin
Too bad the town might not be able to do this job. I can understand, with the tiny population. There are grants available.... I looked at the depot, up close, last Saturday. Looks very solid. Exterior restoration, pending any other moving of that structure, should not be difficult. Boxcab E50
