Good timing that this happened. Before you started adding track and scenery. Sure would be interesting to have an exact answer as to why, as that is the adhesive I prefer to use.
Okay folks, back on track. After removing the foam fiasco I decided to take another look at the plan. Basically it came down to the decision to just model one large industry for now and that will be the paper mill here. In addition, we may move to a larger place in August and I decided to wait to do the port scene then but still wanted to get something up and running for now. Once again David Smith came to the rescue with some ideas and I am ready to start in earnest once again while still maintaining an eye for the future. The track you see that's over the outline of the benchwork is what I'll start with first. All of the blue track will be the future expansion if we move in August and will be the industries at the port. All I have to do is add an 8" x 36" section for now. I plan to just put some 8" L-girders to support the plywood etc. in that area. There won't be much weight there and that should do fine. At a later date I can just remove them and slip the other two modules there to accommodate the expansion since they are already built. The shaded area on the plan is to allow for a removable access area to gain access to the turnout there etc. I put a new plywood top on today and this time I went with a 1/2" stock. Another attempt with foam will follow shortly. The only major change and it's not that major as far as I'm concerned is the minimum radius has gone from 16" to 15.5". Modified plan: New plywood top:
Work is continuing today. I have installed the L-girders for the temporary expansion. Next order of business is to cut the plywood for it and then I'll start the foam installation.
First layer of new foam is down and secured. Just waiting for the area where the milk containers are to dry. This time I used Loctite PL300 for Foamboard and am a believer in this product now. Not only does it adhere good and fast, cleanup from any messes I think is a lot better than Liquid Nails. First layer of foam down.
No recent work has been accomplished on the layout. I was rear-ended on the 12th and have been recuperating from that ordeal. My vehicle was a total loss but fortunately no one was injured. We did have a recent arrival to the fleet this week thanks to Pete at BLW: Bay Line GP38-2's #508 and 509 These are in the paint scheme prior to the Genesse & Wyoming acquisition in 2005. Pardon the pink ground cover.
It's been a couple of weeks since the accident and things are slowly getting back to normal. I'm going to try and get the second layer of foam down this weekend and get it painted so track laying can be started. During this down time I had some time to rethink the industrial areas. I decided that I'm not going to wait on Atlas and have redesigned those areas using #7 turnouts. I have more than enough #7's on hand to complete the job. The only track I don't have are the 2 crossings and the 2 curved turnouts and they should be arriving Thursday. Track laying should begin in earnest shortly.
It's been a little while but 2 layers of 3/4" foam are down and secured to the top. I picked up a gallon of OOPS paint from HD and painted the foam today. I will start laying out track this weekend.
Started laying some track today, but will be going full force this weekend. Once it's all down I'll mark center lines and get the roadbed down then permanently affix the track.
