I have a promotional "G" scale train that I recieved from GM and it included 2 box cars a gondola and caboose. The engine a u25b is lettered with "GM Powertrain" logos. The cars all have GM divisional logos (Parts, Goodwrench Service, etc)
I have collected the factory GM promotional model cars for years. They are 1:24 high detail plastic models. I found USA train 2 tier auto carrier cars that are the same scale.
These make an impressive display in the Parts department at the dealer ship I work at. I want to put a track in at home for my self to enjoy.
I have bought train layout soft ware to help me design the track but is there any "old salts" that can give me advice for starting out on my layout design [IMG]

Odd that it has a model of a General ELECTRIC locomotive, when it's for General MOTORS.

That's weird all right but it's typical of PR types. They get a project going but don't bother to do even the simplest background checks.

Wouls be a nice set though....and of some value I expect.

Larryl...I suggest you "tune in" to some of the LS forums on line and pick up a track plan book down at the local hobby shop. That's a great way to start and will narrow the field for your questions.

    Good luck.

The only advice I would like to give on trackplanning is: KEEP IT SIMPLE, do not overdo it (in putting in to many switches or trackage).

that will give you the best results. ;)

    Larryl,

there are 2 books I can recommend:

"Railways in your garden" from Garden Rail Magazine in the UK.

This book can be ordered on Amazon UK:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1902827015/qid=1048604678/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_0_1/026-2720948-8988469

The other book is: "Getting started in garden railroading" by Allan W. Miller

This book can be ordered from Amzon US.:

    Larry,
    We need more info.

    1) Is this an outside layout or inside?

    2) What are the dimensions you are playing with.

    3) Are there any features you would like? For example, is the whole thing going to be flat?

I have about a 25 ft x 25ft area that is flat and against the house on one side with a low wall on one side 90 degrees to it. It can be on two levels. I have about 3/4 acre of woods adjcent to it that a spur line could go out into but would have to be on elevated track. I can make it deeper but dont tell my wife.
