Join the Yahoo ALPS group. They have a couple different versions of the driver.

IIRC, there is a Windows Hot fix type file that you need to apply before you install the driver.

I use Corel Draw X4, and the Alps 222 drivers for NT/2000 loaded on virtual XP Sp3 running on VMware Player in Windows 7 64bit.

Yeah, it's a lot to swallow, but use the Alps 222 drivers in XP if you have a parallel port. Get them from the Alps Yahoo list.

Pray59 - you lost me on that one - Alps 222 drivers for NT/2000 loaded on virtual XP Sp3 running on VMware Player in Windows 7 64bit.

Can you explain that one some more. I know where to get that driver (I believe) but the virtual XP Sp3 running on VMware Player in Windows 7 64bit I don't quite get. I am running Windows Vista on my other 2 machines. Are you utilizing a parallel to USB cable?? I do have a machine with Windows XPtoo.

This driver thing has me still lost in space. I have a driver from the Yahoo Groups that supposedly works for Win XP. You can also find discs for sale on the bay with XP drivers for MD series printers. I don’t have the printer as of yet in hand so I don’t know if the one from the Yahoo groups works or not. What I do know is I have a machine with XP and a parallel port I can hook the printer up to. Just trying to figure this driver thing out so when I receive the printer I’m not fumbling around and getting frustrated. Thanks.

    help

What he said was he is using the drivers meant for use with the NT/2000 operating system. These drivers are used by widows xp service pack 3. (winxp is way more stable than vista, many work places kept xp until 7 got stable this year) This installation of windows xp is running as a program on his windows 7 machine. Since xp is an Operating System and not a program to run on an os(like corel or office) there is a way to run that and it is called a virtual machine. A program runs on win7 and creates an imaginary computer which windows xp operates on just like it was in it's own box. VMware is a brand.

If you have a machine running xp then use it. That will work fine and you can ignore the virtual stuff. I would upgrade your vista machines to 7. You will thank me when you do. The boss is head of IT for an industrial contractor and I have lived the "which os is better" game since win 3.11.

    JDG,
Wait till you get the printer before you start digging into this. Also, when you install the printer, Windows will try to install it's own drivers. The printer will show up as ALPS MD-1000 (MS), don't use this version. Install the printer manually with the drivers from the the Alps group. It will show in your printer listings without the (MS). That is the printer/driver to use when printing.

I have a newer motherboard but it has a legacy LPT port on it. I am running Windows 7 64bit. There are no Windows 7, Windows Vista, nor Window XP drivers for 64 bit operating systems. I tried add in cards, and prinservers, but could not get anything to operate my MD1000.

I loaded the free windows virtual machine and free windows XP that they offered to Windows 7 users last year, but even that virtual machine would not work.'

Next I loaded the free VMware Player, which is a Virtual Computer that you can load any PC compatable OS on. Next I loaded Windows XP Service Pack 3 on the virtual machine, and told it that it could steal 2MB of my ram, 30GB of hard disc space, the USB and LPT ports from Windows 7, to call it's own. I also had to load all the windows xp drivers for my motherboard, video card, and alps printer, just like I was building up a brand new computer.

In effect I build a legacy windows XP computer that operates in a window of my Windows 7 operating system. It's very easy and self explanitory after you install the VMware Player program.

Now I just run VMplayer, then click on the XP Virtual Machine, and in XP I can run Corel Draw and print to my Alps with bi-directional feedback to tell me when to change the ribbon. :D

I will have to try the magenta bar code for the Oki red spot. I thought about using a metalic color label. Thanks for the tip. At the moment, I am working on some NKP decals and trying to get the correct yellow for it. Here is a pic of my tests print on the NKP SD-9 stripes.
