I need to make these things easier....... Congratulations BnOEngrRick! Altoona, PA! Former Pennsylvania RR/Penn Central/Conrail, now NS yard. home of the Juniata Shops, just east of arguably the most famous railfanning spot in the eastern US- Horseshoe Curve (center of picture)
Not only is Juniata Shops a massive cmples dating back to early PRR days, it also buys kits locomotives from GE and EMD and assembles them on-site. A big money saver, I guess. IIRC, Juniata built the famous K4 class steamers on PRR.
Juniata also built most GG-1's and T-1's. In fact, most of Pennsy's last fifty years of steamers, both experimental and production were erected at the Juniata Shops. http://www.steamlocomotive.com/GG1/juniata.shtml http://www.trainweb.org/horseshoecurve-nrhs/S_Alto_page-2.htm
