when using Atlas c55 turnouts, when it is absolutley necessary to gap or use insulated joiners? I've read ( and probably not comprehended) a lot and even have experimented with some track and cannot get them to short out the rails. So either I got it right the first time, in which case I haven't learned a thing, or I got lucky, same applies. Or, because i haven't got all the feeders soldered in yet I have yet to create the right environment for the train to stop running! Even a frog to frog crossover is hard wired and it still keeps running. I'm a little confused about this. Some sage wisdom would be appreciated.

    Doug,

The Atlas 55 has insulated frogs. They are metal for those that want to power them but they are not powered automatically like the Peco's. There is a little metal tab to the side of the turnout where the frog is. That is where you would want to solder the feeder for the frog. Just remember that the polarity for the frog changes when the direction changes so you will need some king of DPDT switch to change to polarity.

    Clear as mud, right.
