    hello everyone.

Well I've been following the ATSF line thread over in the N scale department and realised his layout is set higher in the air then a normal layout.

After pondering for a little bit. I though of this kind of benchwork.

    - table is 5' high normally (different decks might be lower or higher)
    - at the bottom make a "step" out of wood that shorter people could stand on to see the layout or operate it. In some cases I might need them too (I'm 5' 7" but hills might need some help.
-put a little armrest/drinkholder/table thing like the step but towards the top.

    I currently see this.

    Advantages to a high layout
-You make the layout seem bigger If you put hills in because you might be staring up a valley.
-You can see details on engines better.
-staging is easier to acess when its higher up :tb-cool:
    -little kids can't destroy everything.
    -more headroom under there!

    disadvantages
-you get fewer legs off an 8ft long 2x4
    -re-railing/operations may become difficult
-working on the railroad becomes difficult.

When I was a little kid I always loved scenes where mountains towered over me at the model railroad museum. It's just facinating!

what are everyones opions on "tall" layouts?

    thanks
    jimmy
