Caught this neat lashup yesterday on the BNSF westbound main in Nebraska. Lead unit is FURX as well. Seeing some interesting stuff on it lately. Ddin't get a shot but there was an MRL intermodel with a SD60 lease on point. Going back out tomorrow. Here was a nice graffiti car part way down....
Those FURX units look cool. I have some decals for them, but never got around to applying them to a locomotive!
There are STILL SD40-2s on the point of mainline freights!!! WOO-HOO!! Thank yew Beansniff! BTW Alan (and anybody else who is interested), Athearn came out with an HO scale SD40-2 with the silver & green FURX scheme. Obviously for the ex-BN, covering up the logo & adding FURX letters would work.
I probably saw around 8-10 FURX engines yesterday but only got shots of these two. I am going out tomorrow though and should be able to get some more. We see a lot of 40-2's on point here in Nebraska. Especailly on mix trains or grain. I will see if I can catch a few more tomorrow as well since it is the season for them.
We see SD40-2s in BN colors with FURX lettering on the rock trains from time to time rolling thru Sherman. Bit of a far cry from, say, unit coalies or hotshot trains.......
The N scale decals I have were very kindly sent to me by the late Don Brown, after I mentioned that I liked the scheme. I feel that I should really use them in memory of Don.
Nice pictures! I still see quite a few SD40-2's out east on CSX.... they have a bunch of leasers too. I don't think I have seen an ex-BN Furby, as most are HLCX. Harold
Thank you glad you like them! Seeing lots of lease stuff now with grain season upon us as well. Going to try to get down to the tracks a couple of times a week to see what we come up with. Check the other thread I posted on some NS stuff.
This shot was taken from the top of the "free" parking ramp at Bandana Square. Actually a pretty good (and active) spot. Andrew
An undec of the latest Kato 'Deuce offering could be a good start to those units... A little surgery to get a ratchet brake nose could be required for some units, otherwise, consult proto photos first...
