Last night I decided to fool around with my video camera and test some potential shots, angles and approaches... to get a feel for how I should be planning some of my scenery, etc... Here's one that has some pretty good potential... should be pretty nice once there's hills, rocks, trees, etc. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exQ0vTgse9I"]YouTube - C&O Coal Drag Test Video[/ame] Yes, I know... it's a C&O F unit pulling modern Bethgons... but the blue foam sure does add to the realism, don't you think? :teeth:
It weird how our brains sort of see train regardless of how proto things are. I like the low angle of that shot.
Thanks! I played around with various options last night... one was to put the camera upside down and film the shot. Then, in Winblows Movie Maker, I applied a 180 degree rotation and horizontal mirror affects to right the video. This gives me the lower angle net effect since my camera's lens is about 5" off the ground when shooting the normal way. Makes it feel more like a train since the perspective is in line with what a person would expect watching a train... don't you think?
Neat video! I also enjoyed the other related videos off to the right. You can spend hours a day looking at all of them.
Lloyd, the upside-down-camera idea sounds like a very easy solution to the "viewer's viewpoint" problem. I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere - congrats on a useful "Aha!", and thanks for sharing.
