Hello All, Greetings from the other side of the Atlantic in East Anglia in England. I am attempting to return to the hobby after a break of over 20 years. A friend and I had a large portable exhibition layout and used to do three major shows a year. When I say large, I mean 28' x 28'. That is large by UK standards. It was a mythical preserved line so it gave us the chance to run trains from all the four regions. It was fun and the visitors seemed to like it. We both changed jobs and houses. His wife died and I got married, we lost the workshop and storage facilities. One day we realised that we had not turned a wheel in almost five years. All the rolling stock was still in boxes and someone was willing to pay us handsomely for the layout. So with a handshake the deal was done and we both went our separate ways. Fast forward to this year. I am in a dentist's waiting room and pick up a railway magazine. There is our layout! Many, many changes, but I could clearly see where I had written "Tighten the coach-bolts, before running!" in felt tip pen, on one edge. I was bitten by the bug again. So now I have no where to run and no local club. I am trying to persuade "She who must be obeyed" that a small end to end in the back bedroom won't get in the way. (Wish me luck.) So what else? Oh, yes - I run OO guage, but some HO mixed in. I am very passionate about Heraldry, Genealogy, Scottish Country Dancing and I help my wife make jams and chutneys.
That must be the most interesting story on how the bug returned I've heard. Must have been quite something to see "your" layout in print! And I think most everyone here understands about the Chief Financial Officer, er, wife. And as a (maternal) MacPherson, well met!
Welcome to TrainBoard! We're glad to know the bug has bitten you again. Please keep us posted as you progress. Photos are always interesting.
Hi Kiltpin, Welcome to the TrainBoard, glad you're on board, and that you're returning to modeling. Though I'm concerned about the circumstances. One should not make life-changing decisions whilst seated in a dentist's waiting room, as every option will appear greatly better than that of entering the treatment room....LOL
Welcome aboard, Kiltpin. I understand the SWMBO situation very well. I hope you can get started again.
Welcome aboard, from another Celt! (Part Scottish, part Welsh) It's an interesting set of medal ribbons! Pete Davies
