Hi everyone, my name is Tim, I live I the Chicagoland area. I've been married for three years and have a 3 month old son. I'm new to model RR in general and wanting to get into N scale due to lack of room in our house. I'm on the younger side- of which I never took trains for any sort of transportation until I was an adult. Metra to Chicago, Amtrak from Chicago to Denver and back for our honeymoon (we both wanted to ride since it was new to us) and we also took Amtrak from Chicago to LA, which honesty..was a blast. anyways, I don't have any equipment but I fell in love with Kato's 4-8-4 SP GS-4. And probably will go with the M2 Kato track set to start with. I have around a 4x8 ft space to work with. I'm assuming there isn't a steam engine that produces smoke in n scale? I also was, in the future save up for the digittrax empire builder. I love steam engines and was thinking about an old west/wild west theme. I'm big into modeling so I'm planning on making a lot of the buildings on my own. sorry for any typos I'm on my iPhone
Tim, good to see another Windy City guy here (my mom's in Evergreen Park) As far as I can tell, the smoke is only possible in the larger scales (in N, smoke is almost exclusively a bad thing for an engine) Unless you have specific areas you're looking at, I'd suggest considering the Chicago area - look at the RR history you have in your own bakyard and the hub Chicago has been...Regardless, enjoy!
Welcome from downstate Illinois! If you like the idea of the Old West, check out the Civil War era stuff that Micro Trains is coming out with.
Welcome Tim! If you ever get S.Elgin way, stop in at the Fox River Trolley Museum on Rte 31. I am a member of the museum and we have a nice collection. We will be operating several "Polar Express" weekends. Check our website at www.foxtrolley.org. Folks of all ages enjoy the ride and it is scenic! Charlie
