Frisco fans, I dug out an old video of the St. Louis NRHS convention of 1990 the other night, and noticed (for the first time) that the 1522 had Scullin Disk Drivers on the main driver, and spokes on the other three. Was it always configured like this, or like the NYC, did it go through different sets of drivers?

    Hi Jim,

1522 was not always configured like that.. When built, all drivers were spoked. In the 30's SLSF began reconfiguring with the Scullin discs (In fact, SLSF was one of the first railroads to use them.) Although I'm not sure exactly when 1522 was converted, it had spoked drivers up until at least 1934 when this picture was taken:

Mike, thanks for the info. That's a real nice site--I wish all Fallen Flags had a resource center like that one. Looks like Frisco played around with the drivers like the NYC did. 4310 and 4405 photos showed all discs. Was the 4300 series home-built? I didn't realize Frisco had two classes of Mountains. Learn something every day.

The 4300 and 4400 series were built in the West Springfield Shops in the late 30's.... If you take a look at the 2-10-2's on the frisco.org site, you might just catch a glimpse of future 4-8-2's... recognize those boilers? ;)
