While down at Saginaw last weekend, I managed to find & shoot two relics of the Frisco: Delivered to the Frisco prior to the BN merger Painted in BNSF colors, but underneath the paint is an ex-Frisco GP38-2-built by EMD in 1973 as SLSF 422, delivered to Frisco 7-1973. This was mated to a Genset, and the pair was used as the Saginaw Yard (ex-ATSF) switcher.
Bob, for you and Charlie and other Frisco fans, there is an aerial shot of the Frisco yard complex in Springfield, Mo, in the latest Classic Trains mag. I really like their old aerial views, and they have one of the NYC Beech Grove complex in the same issue. :tb-biggrin:
Was that hopper delivered in the greenish color? Or was that a post-merger repaint? I'm guessing it's a BN paint job. Boxcab E50
It IS a BN paint job, but it came to the Frisco close to the November 21, 1980 merger date. Quite a few covered hoppers were in that order.
OK. So it's one of the bridge type cars- Ordered before, and delivered post-merger, in another color? Boxcab E50
