For you long time Frisco visitors here on TB, you may remember nearly ten years ago I submitted a proposal to BNSF for a Frisco Heritage unit. Much to my delight, I got a response from BNSF but unfortunately they weren't ready to commit to a project like that due to a drive to "establish their brand" as BNSF. Well now it's ten years later, our running Frisco units are ten years older, they've introduced a new BNSF logo and I'm wondering... do you guys think they'd entertain this idea even NOW? I'd have to re-do the proposal to incorporate their new logo but am wondering what the consensus is on the BNSF attitude towards that type of thing is now days. Thoughts? -Mike
Heritage Locomotives The idea is great. The Yello Peril has "Heritage" locomotives so why not BNSF? There could be of course all the locomotives painted in the scheme last used by the merger roads. How about an AC44-9 in Spokane Portland & Seattle?
Here's the original proposal from way back when: Think I should stick with this style or go with a more stylized version like those UP units? I'd prefer to go original but heck, I want to "make the sale" with this pitch so I'm open to suggestions. -Mike
I agree with E8. Worse they can do is say no again. To be honest I would be happy with a unit in those colors with a Mandarin "BNSF" logo replacing Frisco if they are still concerned with "their brand."
Excellent photoshopping, I'd swear it's real! In any case, it's a rather quixotic exercise, us as railfans are no more productive than Don Quixote fighting windmills in the eyes of a corporation. However, give it a try, it wouldn't hurt.
That looks real neat, I think this and other fallen flag heritage schemes would look great on the BNSF system. Maybe take the engines that are still active and paint them in say GN or CB&Q, what they were before BN.
I LOVE IT!!!! But then, I would... since I worked for the ole SLSF back in '74-'76 in Springfield, Mo ;o) Problem is as I see it... we still have a lot of "us/them" mentality running on the BNSF (Bigger Now Sorrier For-it) RR and I sad doubt you could generate much interest today. You see, most of us "old timers" are going, going, & gone and there's more & more "kids" out here today that have NO CLUE about the Old Frisco & where she fell in the pecking order or mergers. But hey, the worst the s.o.b.s can do is turn you down... right?
Indeed. At least the first time I got a response that basically said, "Yeah, we kicked around the idea in one of our board meetings but..." The second time around I didn't get a response at all. Here was the 2nd proposal: I really wanted it to say FRISCO on the side but given how touchy BNSF was being about "brand" I thought I'd stand a better chance if I threw on their new logo. No dice I guess... Welcome to TrainBoard by the way! Regards, Mike
