In putting together my roster of Frisco crummies, I've gotten stumped. I know the 1200-series and 1700-1730 series were used on mainline trains, but what about the 1400 and the 1700-class (with cupolas)? Were they used on mainline freights, or strictly local
stuff, like the ex-Santa Fes were?
I'm modeling the 1975-1980 time frame, so I'm not looking at the wooden hacks.
    TIA

The 1200-1292, 1700-1725 and 1726-1735-series cabooses were used for mainline trains because they were radio-equipped. The 1400-1442-series were used for locals and tranfers and did not have radios. If a 1400 caboose was not avaible, any of the 1200 or 1700 would be used. I once saw a bay-window 1730-series on the Thayer local. Roger

I'm not sure of the numbers but when I was a wee switchman back in the old days at Cherokee yard the daily train from OKC would come in with the old style crummys and I'm not sure but can't remember them having radios. Forgive my ignorance here but they were the old steel like the SF used to have may have been SF rejects not sure with the cupola on one end

They were. Frisco got about 29 of these from Santa Fe for local service- I would see 'em on locals around Afton, OK on the Cherokee Sub, and on the Columbus (KS) Switcher and Miami (OK) Switcher on the Afton Sub.
