Hi all I am looking for some info on freight train names or nicknames for the Milwaukee. Need a name for the Jeep (which happens to be orange with a black top and I worked on former Milwaukee lines oooooo) but nothing is coming to mind.I figured a frieght train name would work.Seeings mine isnt a cannonball or Rocket by any meansBut she can pull a house lol. Thanks in advance!
Well, if it's a Jeep, I doubt you'd want to call it the "Ford Fast." How about going back to when they introduced the new 261/262 in the early 1960s? The westward, 261, was the XL Special. Probably not quite it. But it's counterpart, 262, was the Thunderhawk.
freight train names The BNSF(former C.B.&Q) called the job that worked the West Chicago branch the "Irish Mail" Dunno how it got that name. The House 7 job(or was it House 8?) job was known as the "Congo Job". No, not a racial slur or anything to do with Africa. It worked(such as it was)out of the small yard at CONGress Park. Hence "Congo" There were jobs out of Eola that were called "Nabisco job". They switched the auto transload facility in Naperville and also the Post Cereals plant(which formerly was owned by Nabisco). The road switcher that worked west out of Eola on the "Main Line" was the "Cat Job". Among other things it switched the Caterpillar plant in Montgomery IL(fascinating job! we took "beans" inside the plant!) The BRC(Belt Rwy Co of Chicago) had a couple of interesting names that I remember. The job whose work centers on the Nabisco bakery(BTW it's in my 'hood!)is called the "cookie job". There is also a job switching industries along the North/South main. It's called the "nose picker" I have NO idea!!!!! LOL Charlie
