I believe that is alittle of both freelancing and kitbashing. Freelancing would be if you painted them other then Pennsy. Kitbashed is the fact of alterations made to the body itself. :D But anyway good work "A man with a dream as a child will come true one day as long as the will to do it is their" You got your GG-1D and my childhood dream was the fact of machinery in road work like cranes and pavers dump trucks to bulldozers! Well I took the cranes and other things that I had pictures of in railroading and scratchbuilt or kitbashed to make the MOW train I now own in the N'th degree of detail. Its the pride and joy of my whole train collection. :D And envyed by thousands of kids everywhere thats seen it in action, (not to mention the guys that noticed, "hey thats never been made that I know of, where did you get it???? My response: My house" :D its hand made out of bulk material. Then I get a look like where, who, how, etc did you learn to do this type work? HE! Thats another story all on its own! Lets say alot of years in trial and error and then satisfactory....... :D

And when i finally make my Orca Mt. RR decals and apply them to my then painted black GG-1Ds, i guess it will be totally like nothing prototype. I love cranes and dumptrucks and such, so i have lots of mines and a container dock to unload ships, etc. to show those things off. I'm having WAY more fun than when i was a kid because I pick my toys now! Curt

GG1-Ds......sounds intriguing. Did you use surplus Fairbanks-Morse opposed-piston engines (like the subs did), or leftover Alco prime movers?

    A&A,
You are right it would be freelanced concidering that there never was a such loco in reality GG-1D...... :D I forgot about that when I posted my last post... But i'll bet money that is it intriging! Not to mention intimidating to those that don't get into that type of modification to diesels let alone remove all the regular remembered detail of any specific loco like the GG-1's with their pantographs. That was the identifying feature of them! And very noticable..... :D And you removed them and replaced them with diesel cooling fans ect...

    Curt,
While its fresh in my head, I got a question for you.... Did you save the pantographs from your GG-1 or GG-1s ???? If you have them and would want to sell them for a few bucks i'll concider buying them! I have a few GG-1s that I want to restore and the pantographs are shot! I need to get replacements. If so you can contact me at:

    yellowstone10@hotmail.com

I'll get back to you on them ASAP. Also if you have more then one set let me know how many i'll be interested in those as well, for future repairing or future repair jobs that might come my way..... THANKS in advanced!

Just sent you an e-mail about my panographs- they're available. The submarine engines we bought surplus from the Navy were quite a breakthrough in horsepower and technoligy, but our anti-military president's cuts nixed the funding for the actual subs after the engines were actually delivered, so we got a bunch of them for a song. I can't tell you more about them, because i personally am mechanically challenged. Sorry Friscobob. As far as all the modifications, i do love the basic shape of the GG-1, but i also think it looks a little sleeker this way. I've always marched to a different drummer, and got real tired when i was real young of pleasing everybody else, you know? One of the best aspects of freelancing for me is pleasing me, but still running my RR in a way that would please my customers and still be fun for me. Curt
