What about an all scale-prototype discussion forum on intermodal transportation? including: -Railroads & routes. -Well,spine,and stack cars. -Containers & piggy-back. -Yards & equipment. -Available intermodal model products. Just a suggestion.
Jerry, Thanks for your suggestion, the best way for a new forum to become a reality is too post some related topic and see what response it gets. I suggest you choose a forum e.g On the rails or the ready track and see how it goes. If the topic is verty active then it will improve the chance of a new forum being created. Good luck
Try this URL. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/modelintermodal Lots of discussion on topics listed by Jerry R.
I am a member of the intermodal group listed above, and it is VERY active. I think an Intermodal forum would be a good idea.
Yeah,I've been to that site and belonged to the e-mail list, their strictly HO (they like to shun the N-scalers) and dont update the site to often. I just thought that being everything else is pretty much covered here, why not an intermodal forum,It did save alot of railroads, and is a BIG part of modern railroading. Like I stated before, just a suggestion.
Hey Alan,is it that active now? when I belonged to it it was very slow and they ridiculed the n-scalers,I was very turned off by that and left the group. Maybe we should take this discussion over to the n-scale forum and see what we can generate, what do you think? Maybe I'll get it going now!
Jerry, I hope you don't think I was being negative in my post. I am also in favour of an intermodal forum as at the moment the topis are spread across several forums. [ 16 August 2001: Message edited by: Colonel ]</p>
No Paul,I didnt sense any negitivity at all,I understand perfectly what you meant. I just started a thread now on the n-scale forum, but some input on the the prototype operations and the like would be really cool! I watched those guys go at it thru some binoculars at the Ferndale,MI.yard once,WOW! they are FAST!containers off, sorted, loaded on trucks, and out the gate!like clockwork! BTW, nice pic! gotta love those "over and under" shots!only on your layout can you get those anytime you want!lol!
Jerry, I have not noticed anything negative on the modelintermodal e-group, indeed, as a manufacturer of N scale kits, I have had positive feedback As you say, intermodal is a very big part of modern railroading, so there is plenty of scope for discussion. Not sure where the forum should be located, as it would cover both model and prototype, but I would favour the modelling forums.
N scalers are a big part of both groups now. In fact Design Inovations(?) has come out w/ new cars not currently available in HO.
An intermodal forum would be great!!! I model intermodal in N scale and am getting pretty close to 100 diff platforms for containers or trailers. I have done alot of custom work on my cars and would like to have a specific place where I could ask questions and stuff. Here is another link about containers which I find way cool: The Intermodal Container Site Check it out!! It's like a photo roster of any container type you can think of [ 17 August 2001: Message edited by: John Barnhill ]</p>
John Didn't have any luck w/ your URL. Try this one.http://members.tripod.com/~intermodal_fan/sea_containers1.htm This is Matt Hannes' site. He, his father & brother are avid container photographers. Matt had an article in MR a few years back on his intermodal/port module. I also would like to see an intermodal forum here.
Thanks, thats the one!! I just added the 'l' to htm causing it not to work. Just edited it so now it works.
Matt Hannes' site is my bible for anything about containers! He has done a wondeful job I have links to his site(s) on my websites for folks to see pics of some of the container flatbeds I produce.
BNSF and NS have teamed up to provide a seamless non-stop (except for crew changes) premium intermodal service for time-sensitive freight between southern California and Pennsylvania/New Jersey. Westbound service started August 14, and eastbound August 16. BNSF will provide line haul between california and Chicago, and NS from there to the east coast.
