The 1:150 makes that look just right. You going to decal it for Caltrans? Also, does the center truck have electrical pickup or just the outers? Andy "Tetsu Uma"
andy the center truck is unpowered and was removed for a fuel tank. the passenger cars are going to lose the caltrain markings
I selectively insert the "stealth" catenary in my minds eye. Can't wait to see it when you have it done. Andy "Tetsu Uma"
I've been meaning to take photos of my new EF66 but with my son here, I've been very busy. The ne free weekend I had, it rain, so I wasn't able to take any photos. I don't know if my halogen work lights will be bright enough for close up shots.
Met someone on another forum who sent me to this link: Eurofima Prima! - European N scale modelling of the ÖBB (and SBB) His layout pics looked a lot like someone who posted here a while back maybe he is still a member here as well.
The May/June edition of N Scale magazine has features models of two international railroads, in Wales and in Japan. Modeling international lines is of little interest to me but I enjoyed reading about both models. From a happy subscriber.
I'll have to take a look at that. I'm going to make an effort this weekend to get my EF66 outside to take some photos. It's supposed to be warm this Saturday. 84 degrees should be nice photography weather!
I finally got around to taking some photos of my EF66: Sorry about the quality of the photo, but I've gotten a bit rusty when it comes to using my macro lens. Out of the nine photos I took, this is the only one that came out.
As promised, some pics of the new stuff. I bought the ED53 used on another forum, from a guy in Canada. Its a nice runner. The Minitrix DRG locos have great detail and run well. I got them at a not so LHS in Singapore. The shop owner was wonderful, she ran the trains for me, we talked for a good while, the final prices were lower than online and she refused to sell me an 0-6-0 passenger set because the loco didn't run. I was pretty sure I could fix it and I've become quite fond of the little 2 axle cars. The Glaskasten has me thinking a good 4-4-0 American should be cake, Even if it had to cost $100 plus. Considering Bachmann can put out a good little 0-6-0 that can be had online for 34.95 new. I'm not expecting the Glaskasten to pull much, but it pulls the beer cars. If only it had lighting and DCC. I did see one with DCC, but it was another $100.
WPZephyrFan & kmcsjr, nice models. Kato are improving the detail on the Japanese locos all the time and those German steamers do make you wonder why similar U.S. engines can't be done, Bachmann said a 2-10-0 wasn't possible. The fact that the Glaskasten can be had with DCC at all shows what can be done.
I have to agree. I also run Z scale and if Tenshodo can do a Z scale steam locomotive with tender drive that runs great and that the Z guys are already converting to DCC and adding firebox flicker, why can't we have a nice 2-10-0 or 4-6-0 at the level of a Kato, MicroAce or Tomix?
She's a beauty. That's the Tomix model, right? Is that the early phase or a later phase? Slap some Unimates on her and give her a shot at pulling the Zephyr!
Yep, she's a Tomix model. It's a late phase with visors. I'm planning on putting some new couplers on it. I like how it has a set of dummy knuckle couplers included with instructions on how to swap them out. They're in Japanese, but the drawings look pretty clear. I can see this is going to be the first of many JR pieces for me!
Let me know if you have trouble and would like to know what the Japanese says. I have to say though, if it is anything like Unimate couples, it should be no problem.
John - Google has a translation page: Google Translate If you can scan the instructions into your computer and then copy and paste them into the translation box you'll get the instructions in English. Kato & Greenmax also have their instruction in Japanese for their prototype trains & structures.
I was just going to have my wife translate it. My Japanese is too rusty. You can also try http://babelfish.yahoo.com.
I've been trying to learn a bit of Japanese for a while now, so trying to read the kana will be fun. I still need to add the little number plaques and bits and pieces to the model. After that's done, I'll get a second chance to take some photos. Besides being rusty taking close up photgraphs, I have to admit I was rushing it a bit. I wanted to get the roll to processing Saturday afternoon so I could post them here. That and the fact that the apartments I live in has a lot of "hands on" type of kids. lol
LOL One of the reasons I bought the EF66 is because it reminds me of a Hino truck I used to drive. I was watching the NHK news last year and it was the last run of the Blue Train. I saw the loco and thought it was pretty cool looking.
