Digitrax does seem to have problems shipping decoders as well.

That is for sure Bob, out of a $1500 order for our shop, $300 worth came in off the bat 2 weeks ago. Another $400 worth came in last week. Still waiting on the rest. We had a customer order 15 various decoders and he has about half of them now. Still waiting patiently.

I dunno. When I had a layout I didn't have any decoder-equipped units and now that I have those I'm between layouts. [IMG]

In a recent tour of model train-focused hobby shops in the greater Los Angeles area, merchants time and again said basically the following:

"We have dozens of people coming in here wanting to get into N scale. Then they find out that they can't get the locomotives they want. If they're lucky enough to find the locomotives, they can 't get decoders. So they walk out."

There is some sort of fundamental inefficiency in this market. Economists, what's the reason?
