I just purchased at a sponsor of this site a LL FA-1 and FB-1, supposedly a matched set. They are great, look great, run quiet and smooth and are tender to the touch. Problem ??? The B unit runs a bit faster (with same current on same track) than the A unit. 1. Do I worry about it? 2. Will this adversely affect performance as an AB unit when hooked up? 3. Is there anything I should or could do to get them in sync, noting my limited intellect and physical acumen.
They should run fine together. The speed differences may even out with a little running. Unless couplers are crunching or wheels spinning, small differences in speed usually don't cause problems.
I have three sets of them, and they all seem to run together fine after a little break-in time. Also putting a train behind them with even out the speed on them. They are fabulous engines.
I agree with Pete and Bill it is not that common that identical engines will run at exactly the same speed. There is no problem in ruinning them together. Even the prototype locomotives usually have uneven speed.
I try to run my faster diesels behind the slower ones. The drag of the cars behind the fast diesels slow them down so they don't push against the slower diesels in front (usually).
"I try to run my faster diesels behind the slower ones." Works fine as long as the B unit is faster. Otherwise it looks a bit funny. Ed
