I have always found it necessary to solder the rail joiners whenever I use flex track in a curve so that the joint does not kink. I solder the flex track to the turnout first then bend it around to a straight tangent or another piece of flex track and continue the curve. The flex has to be relaxed when I solder and then I bend it after to make the curve whether it is on a turnout or another piece of track.

Russell sounds right to me. I always heard the rule, "Solder the curves, gap the straights." That generally works.

I also like to do half of the turnaround at a time or 90 degree of it, so that one side of it is set while you work on the other side.
