Do you wanna know what the favorite (and perhaps not-too-flattering) nicknames are for the railroad of your choice? Check this place out: Railroad Nicknames
Looks as though the list has been updated since our last visit. I suppose that as time goes on, it will get longer, and longer...... One that could be listed for a favorite of mine, as I've heard it mentioned and spoken of it many times: Minneapolis & St.Louis RY is often known by: "The Em and Saint Ell." Boxcab E50
Hi all, I think the list is short a couple of nicnames. The other nicname for the Northwestern Pacific was Never Will Pay. And I also heard the Western Pacific called The Old Woden Axle. Not sure why? Shannon WP LIVES (no matter what the UP says)
I've heard of a few other RRs that had this nickname. This has me wondering. Were the management people considered to be cheap when it came to upkeep? Or buying much needed new equipment? Boxcab E50
Hadn't heard that one, but if you mention "the Louie", I know which road you're talking about. I miss those middleweight Midwestern roads....
Greetings all Just for fun I looked up the old Great Western Railway from the UK and yes! it was there.. (25 years modelling the GWR when I was in the UK.. sad huh?? anyway.. the one major name didn't exist so for completeness.. GWR = Greasy Wet and Rusty Regards all
Delaware and Hudson</font> Delay and Hesitate</font> Delayed and Hungry</font> Desparate and Hungry</font> Dying and Hemhoraging</font> OUCH!
All those nicknames, and not one for Frisco...... The ultimate successor (Been Nothing Since Frisco, Big New Super Frisco, Bad News Santa Fe, Burlington Northern S****ed the Frisco) has quite a few, including my favorite- Beansniff. As for the Unlimited Parking/Ugly Pileup/Utterly Pathetic.......wonder if they'll ask for fees to use these names............. I did hear one for the UP/SP merger- yoU People Start Packing (referring to the Espee folks) One thing for sure- if you have no sense of humor, or are hypersensitive, you shouldn't read this list
