I just got an Atlas GP40-2 equiped with the factory installed DCC. I do not have a DCC system yet so I placed it on a DC track. When you apply power the lights come on, then flash and the loco does not move. I had a similar problem with an SD35 earlier, that I got rid of at a loss cause I did not know what was going on. Anyway a little help would go a long way.

    Thanks,
    Brad

    Brad:

With a factory intsalled decoder on the loco, the default setting is usually set to work on DCC and DC.

However there is a setting in CV29 to change that to run on DCC only.

THat would explain why the loco doesn't move on a DC system.

If you bought this loco new, the default setting for CV 29 is to have the loco run on either DCC or DC.

If you bought the loco used, the default setting could have been changed to run on DCC only.

Hope this helps in some way. [IMG]

I know allot of newer Digitrax decoders do not have the option to run on DC. Being that this is an Atlas loco, it should a Lenz decoder and by default they are setup for DC and DCC

    Matt:

I would check your statement. All decoders use CV 29. In CV 29 is the default to run on DCC and DC. All decoders are set to this default. The user than has the option to run the loco on DCC only. This prevents "runaways", which can happen if the loco is left in the default value of DC/DCC.

It isn't limited to Lenz decoders.

    Bob,
You are correct, I stand corrected. After reading your post I went back to LoysToys to see if I was seeing thins....I misread the "No DC Function Control" I took that in that the new decoders no longer had support for DC operations.

I did not read the article at length and snaped the info from the header only. A lesson learned to not take things at face value per say.

I am sorry if I mislead anyone. Thanks Bob for setting me straight on this.

Now, back to some train chat [IMG]

I have found with my factory default decoders that DCC equiped locos run very strangley on my Plywood Central with DC. This may have someting to do with my DC power....it is a Troller autopulse...which the power indeed appears to be pulsed. The DCC equiped locos behave very odd at slow speeds.

I think there is a way to reprogram the DC performance (did not read much on the topic). For myself, DC power will become almost extinct for train operations.....so I have not researched this much.

    Matt:

DCC loco's do run strangely on a DC layout. The reverse is also true. Analog loco's run on DCC but not to their full capabilities.
