AZL is excited to release the first photo of their upcoming GP7 diesel locomotive. The photo shows the preproduction sample. The finished GP7s will have directional controlled LED lights, 8mm Faulhauber motor, dual flywheels, traction tires and prototype specific details. The release is planned for early 2007. No roadnames have been announced at this time. Pricing to be announced.

Very nice!!! I'll take an NS please. ;) Ah, just make a black undecorated and I'll work overtime to get Tim to whip one up in NS and one in PRR. Next year is going to be a very good year indeed.

On Z Tracks website it states...............

    It states GP7 and GP9!!!!!

Which is it gonna be? Or is AZL secretly doing both? Perhaps to shame MTL's attempt? Hmmmmmmm!

Well, if the AZL is first, then I buy more AZL than MTL. It's a model I need, and other than the F7, the only other diesel produced in Z that the NP had so far. :D

    YES!

That looks 1000 times better than a MT GP35 and I am very happy about that.

Maybe it's time to start selling off my N scale...

Could it be that by simply replacing the brass side wall with one etched with different louvers you could have a GP7 or GP9.
    GP7:

    GP9:

And that separate DB section means they will come with non-DB as well.

A++++++++ I gotta go pinch myself.

And this sample has a winterization hatch, which is obviously separate.
I heard that AZL had cancelled their GP9 to avoid such direct competition.

I hope not, if the MTL GP9 is going to be wide looking like the GP35 I want an AZL. This looks great I want one of each.

    Chris,

Good call on the DB. You are correct. Basically, any of the parts shown can be interchanged. From my talks with AZL, options are planned. This could be one killer run!

By the way, there is a photo of the front of the loco on the Ztrack home page. It is www.ztrack.com

As for GP9s, AZL's tool and dies do allow for GP9s to be produced. I know that the first run is all GP7s.

Nice, closed pilots. The engine will change the way people view Z scale.

Stay cool and run prototypical z scale engines...:shade::shade:

    Oh wow. That is gorgeous.

I'm glad someone cares about Z enough to do it right, rather than write it off as "just Z scale". These should be a big hit.

I can only hope there will be a few DRGW road numbers in the first run, we sure need it.

I know better than to even ask AZL to release them in Erie paint.

I previously said in another thread that I was not in any hurry to get new items on the marked just yet. But I think I have to reconsider when this little baby comes on the marked.

I'm guessing that this GP7 will run well together with the GP-35's ?
