CR First blue?

What was the first engine to be repainted in the blue scheme, and how long after the merger was it?

1st big blue loco

hello there, the 1st loco in conrail blue was former new york central,gp-40 #3091 in may 1976, painted at the collinwood shop ohio.

 

O.K. Triplex... is that the correct answer???

thanks chessie, did you guy's ever see the conrail bicentenal paint before they settled on there blue canopener paint job. the gp-38 & gg1?

 

I remember the GG-1,not the GP-38.
Don't forget,they got the 2 EL units in red,white & blue.#3632 & #3638. They also did a U-34CH in R,W & Blue.I can't remember the #,but I remember seeing it & in pictures

 

hey,just found a picture of that U34CH, it's #was 1776. the GP-38# was 7776.. i gonna see if i can scan these pic's & post them

The GP38 didnt get the press that the GG1 did. Big surprise there huh?

And yes Jimmy nailed it, the first unit painted blue was GP40 3091 painted at Collinwood in 1976. Everyone was afraid that the new CR would be black like PC, but the blue was a very welcome addition..

 

conrail blue,how sweet it is, very easy to paint&decal if you model conrail......

 

Almost as easy as Penn Central....
