hi folks I recently purchased an undecorated Atlas SD35 high-hood. This should become the first loco painted by myself. I know that there's no prototype for it. It's just a 'what-if' paint scheme. Though I like it. There's a bit more work to do such as adding details and painting the trucks gray. Now there are more locos waiting for the paint job to be done (2 SD90, 1 SD80, 2 C44-9W, 1 GP30, 1 GP35, 1 SD40-2, 1 Trainmaster). Probably all of'em will receive 'what-if' paintschemes that CP could has used (Beaver logo, dual flags, pac-man, re-paints). I hope you'll enjoy the following pics. have fun Sandro [ 28. Didn't CP ever get a few former UP units and left them that way? I know I saw one or two of them like that on the net somewhere. anyways, GOOD JOB!
In the past 2-3 years I've seen many ex-SP and D&RGW units in original paint (and dirt) that had big (5' x 2'?) Armour Yellow rectangles painted under the cab windows with their new red UP numbers painted inside ... so why not an ex-UP loco in original paint with CP logo and numbers? I have come to believe that there is (will be) a prototype for Anything! A couple of years ago I saw 13 locos of mixed ownership hauling one (1) boxcar! Now that's enough to give any boxcar an inferiority complex ... [ 28. November 2002, 13:17: Message edited by: Hank Coolidge ]
Sandro, Great job! Looks really good. With 9+ more to paint, you are going to be a busy painter! Look forward to seeing the photos! Pat and all, CP did have some former UP units that were in this paint scheme. There are also some former NS units running on CP that are black with white CP Rail lettering. Seems like I also remember seeing a picture of a white unit with red CP Rail lettering (maybe was an ex KCS unit)
folks CP indeed owned a couple of former UP units they simply re-lettered. Check http://www.trainweb.org/galt-stn/cproster/locomotive/5400s/cp5426.htm to see an example. Yes, there was a white CP unit with red lettering. As far as I know CP never owned SD35's and also never got some from UP (if they ever had any). have fun Sandro
I have seen SD40-2's painted like that, also,CP has some ex-guilford gp's with the big "G" painted over with black and the "CP" is in white.Big white CP on the nose too.
Thats a nice looking paint job its interesting too. Im thinking about having UP locos with a similar patch job for a shortline on my layout.
Very well done, Sandro. I can think of a few schemes that are easier for a first-timer... all with no stripes!
Great job Sandro! I like not only the paint job, but the "history" that goes with it! Yes, CP did receive some ex-NS units and no they weren't SD35's, however, the whole story line is believable. I like it! Harold
thanks folks !! This really motivates to proceed with all the other paint jobs to be done. Painting is one story , applying the decals another one....
Yes, CP does have some ex-UP engines that are still in yellow and gray but with "CP Rail" written on the side and red #s (just like this nice paint scheme on the SD35). I have only seen SD-40s with such a paint job, though.
