Unfortunately, I'm not going to reach my goals of getting the yard and industrial sidings track done. Time and money caught up with me. The time was expected to be tight, but I got sidetracked on the money side, by finally taking the plunge and getting a Digitrax Zephyr system and 2 locos to run on it until I get the rest of my locos converted. However, I'm happy with the work I DID manage to get done before the DCC got me. That in itself is progress for me, although I wasted a lot of time playing with the system and running trains. Here's a couple of pictures of the two new RS-11s and the yard so far. Dave.
Mark and Ken, well done with the trees, they look great! Mark, you should take care of those other plants, don't let em die :tb-hissyfit: Dave, at least those two engines are very nice! :ru-cool:
OK, here is my weekly update. I added more static grass, bushes and trees. For more photos and a short video see my blog:
Denny, this looks very good! Here's my latest work, scrap yard fence. It's not finished. I need twice as much to install. Wolfgang
Denny, I still can't believe this is the same scene that I have been looking at on your blog for the last year or so. What a transformation! Jamie
OK, Denny, no superimposing scenic images with the model images - that's cheating! Very realistic as Todd has already stated, particularly the second photo.
Mark, your layout is looking great! I missed your post the first time through At least you got your bed cleared off!! :tb-biggrin: -Mike
Denny, you never cease to amaze me! I hope I'll be able to come halfway close to what your are doing with your scenery! I'm being lazy again this week, so not as much done as I wanted. I got the subroadbed cut out now all around the upper level. WooHoo! And now I've started the homasote roadbed along the canyon area and while waiting for the glue to dry, I put down some flextrack. Here's the cut out subroadbed in the canyon Glueing in the roadbed and testing the curves with two autoracks. I used carboard shims from a cheez it box (the best cracker ever!) for super evevation on all the curves. Here is the same scene with the homasote roadbed in and the track glued down. Had to run a train out from the staging (laundry) room. Note the lean to the loco from the carboard shims. -Mike
Denny, you do some fine work. The scenery is exceptional. Mike the benchwork looks great and the super elevation is just right. I am afraid I may not have any more to offer in this party but I still feel good about the small accomplishments I made while participating.
Well I finally reached the end of the "canvas" on the Van Buren/Alma backdrop. I have two or three more layers of detail to add before its finished Ya'll (that's Texan for all of you) seem to be making great progress and nice work indeed. Nothing like a party to get things going!
Looking good Mopman. I wanted to get some Poly Scale for cement plant but some one in a forum said he used Tamiya paints so I went looking and chose 2 colors I thought would be good. I like the results but it looks so incomplete without roof railing and details.
John, the plant looks good  Next time me and the woman go to Disneyland, I'd love to see it (and the rest of your layout) in person. -Mike
Looks great everybody and thanks for the comments. This layout party pushed me a lot and I was able to almost complete the scene I only miss some additional details like Scenic Express Prairie Turfs here and there. Anybody tried those tiny things? Wolfgang, I guess your fence will look great just as your tank spur scene Mike, the shims turn the curve scene into a great one. I imagine it with scenery around it, and I'm sure it's gonna be a very nice one! Mopman, the town took shape! I think with few more details like a grade crossing and some trees, you're almost done. John, I feel the color is perfect! Well, the plant certainly misses some details, but it's definitely better than nothing
Denny: Man I am impressed, you have captured a real sense of wide open spaces. The grass, the track, wooden fence posts, telephone poles a few trees and shrubs all done well to give that miles from anywhere feel, love it. Oh, and great weathering on the locos and rolling stock. Something I have yet to do on my layout. Well I got some things done, not as much as I would have liked but... The track has balast and is mostly weathered, trees were planted and the backdrop did get some paint. And, some scenic details...
Great work everyone! Ken, the helix area is looking great. I finally got the backdrops in place and secured. All that needs to be done is a cap in the end of the double-sided backdrop on the centre peninsula, filling the joins and screw holes, sanding and painting. Newt, the final design and roadbed can be looked at. Something for the next layout party? Note another remnant of the last layout on the right of the second photo now used as a test track.
Thanks Ken! All of your comments keep me motivated, thanks again! As for me, I haven't done much this last week, both because I felt the scene is pretty complete and because it's been a crazy week at work. Here is a before and after comparison: Mission accomplished
Very impressive Denny !!! The comparison between before and after is killing. You really have an eye for modelling.
