Here's a fun thing the HO guys are doing on their forum. The merger aspect is funny, however, that ain't gonna fly here because the BNSF/AOW won't be taken over by ANYONE! EVER! DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT! [IMG] So let's see what we can come up with. Here's mine...

The BNSF/AOW announced today that until an updated version of the F40PH or Genesis Type Loco is built under contract by Life-Like, Atlas, or Kato for GM's EMD division or GE, all Passenger service is abandoned until further notice. Hopefully a public out cry will motivate one of these fine locomotive builders to get on the ball and make rail-passenger travel in Southeast Texas possible again.

In response to an official statement today from BNSF/AOW, Ivor Greedie-Manor, spokesperson for the Locomotive and Accessory Manufacturing Enterprise (LAME), has indicated due to the increasing subsidies paid each year to bolster passenger operations, particularly in marginal rider areas of Arizona, New Mexico and parts of southern Texas, all planned expansion into this area of manufacture has been suspended pending an upturn in rider demand.
Mr Greedie-Manor was quoted as saying, "With limited resources on hand, we simply cannot continue with this ridiculous assumption that if someone wants it, they will get it - we have director and shareholder concerns to deal with. They expect us to maximise profits and dividends, and minimise expenditure on marginal return projects".

Houston, TX (AP) - In response to the BNSF/AOW suspension of passenger operations due to inoperable equipment, the Union Pacific has offered to lease their passenger equipment to the BNSF for a considerable sum. The Union Pacific RR has 3 E9s, a DDA40X, a Challenger steam locomotive, and a Northern steam locomotive at its disposal.

"This is just UP trying to push us around! They're in league with the STB. Watch them approve a UP/CP merger!!" announced an angry Rob Krebs, CEO of BNSF Corporation.

John Bromley, director of UP public relations, stated "We would just like to get our freshly painted engines around. They will be going to the conventions this summer, so BNSF has to act fast."

Bob Krieger, a member of the UP steam crew, summed it up the best, "I don't care where I run, as long as I'm running steam!"

    ----end of story----

Just had to take my shots at BNSF for not having executive power!! [IMG]

I can always run my DDA40X with a passenger excursion until LL/Kato/Atlas decide to make some modern passenger stuff that I'm willing to run.

Ahem. Stand by while I load my clip in case anyone gets out of line.

Due to lax operations practices, the BNSF today announced a major restructuring. The corporate offices will be moved to St. Louis, Missouri and the name will be changed to "The St. Louis - San Francisco Railway." A massive repainting of all equipment will begin soon. There will be two paint schemes - the first mandarin and white and the other black and yellow. The railroad's slogan which will be painted on all rolling stock will be .....

Maxwell Plant, VP in charge of SE Texas operations, BNSF/AOW has replied today to UP's offer of leased passenger power...

"Ah, no...we want to have some modern power without any rust under the paint. Mr. Krebs will back me on this. If we were to take any UP power to run our Passenger trains, we'd have to strip the Armour Yellow off and put them through recondition and in Warpaint before letting any reused SP loco's on any of the AOW divisions."

In responce to rumors of a Home office relocation, Krebs had this to say...

"We, at BNSF, would rather move all our offices to Baltimore and repaint our equipment in Blue and Gold/Yellow before we would ever move to St. Louis. At least they would be in old Santa Fe freight colors that way. St. Louis is a fine city, but it just doesn't fit into our corporate mold as a home base, the rumors are unfounded. We have concidered opening a division in Lincolnshire, England to help with moving British rail transport foward into the new millinium, but more studies are needed."

Denver(AP) - The Associated Press has found that UP Steam on the BNSF may not be that unfounded. Jim Burrill, a Denver native and avid railfan, had the following to say.

"Just this past winter, Bob (Krieger) and the UP steam crew were plowing out portions of the BNSF with the old Rotary Plow! If BNSF has a lot of hard work to do, they call the UP steam crew."

As for modern power, John Bromley released a statement reminding BNSF that the E9s are in fact modern, since they have been rebuilt to GP38 standards internally.

And for steam, who would not jump at the chance to ride behind a steamer on a regular basis?

    ----end of story----

That Quote from Jim is almost accurate, Bob really did do some plowing on the BNSF with the rotary.

I remind you it was a merger between the Frisco and bn - not a takeover. The Frisco heritage is the life blood of the operation.

Would that be the recently terminated Maxwell Plant?

    <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Maxwell Plant:

That would also be the recently unemployed Mr. Krebs.

At that point Mr. Krebs realized that he was without work and looked to see if he had enough cash to indeed go to England where he hopes to apply for a job driving a small gas powered train around a children's zoo.

The BNSF/AOW wants to assure all it's investers that Mr. Krebs and Mr. Plant have not been terminated. It seems a nasty Ultra-right wing militant group known as [IMG]"E8's Frisco Dreamers" [IMG] started these rumors along with the now well know "April Fools" rumor that the NdeM was taking over BNSF [IMG]. In truth, the NdeM wanted to buy what was left of the Frisco Lines from BNSF. However, Krebs and Plant refused due to the need of these lines to compete with UP. Krebs felt that the UP was a silent-partner in the attempted buy out and was also quoted as saying, "Wasn't the Frisco controlled by the Santa Fe at one point? Yes, I think it was." [IMG]

Counteracting the rumours of BNSF returning to the 'ice cream' colours of Frisco, an unnamed source from within the inner sanctum of BNSF has confirmed that the rumours were centred around an afternoon board meeting following a particularly potent Vindaloo luncheon. Someone mentioned the Basmati rice had orange bits in it - just like the old Frisco colours.

    Arrg,

BC Rail has decided to switch to N Scale! This move has not suprised many people, but they are questioning how the 20 0000 car long trains will work out! They are estimating that there will be 8 Atlas SD60s at the head end of a train, howevere it may easily turn into about 100. A good thing about this plan is the lack of fatalities about to occur.

A map, found in a archive at Normal, Illnois, shows interchange points around the Toledo (Ohio) area, c 1952.

Operation on the (HO fictional) Maumee and Cuyahoga was not included, but there are fourteen flags shown on the map, including the Toledo Terminal RailRoad. TTRR was operated by C&O, through the Chessie days.

Maumee and Cuyahoga wasn't the only line that didn't appear on the map. Two other pikes, Michigan Road (MR) and Maumee River System (MRS) were also missing from the map.

MR was the competitor with NYC's Michigan Central to Blissfield, MI and beyond; MRS was paralell to Wabash and NKP, along the Maumee River, out to Ft Wayne.

MR and MRS were to have joined when Toledo Union Terminal opened but the honeymoon was over after an editorial in the Toledo Blade ("Why would anyone want to leave Toledo?" 4/1/1952) turned public opinion against any travel to Michigan or Indiana.

Of course, there was a long-held rivalry between Michigan and Ohio dating back to a fight to establish their common state line.

Early cartographer of the area presumed the Maumee River would be the southern limit of the Michigan Territory, instead of the arbitrary paralell used before the 20th Century.

Michigan and Ohio were so incensed by the competition over Toledo the two states raised militia; there were border skirmishes along the area between South Otter Creek (in present day MI) and Maumee River.

The struggle was crucial to decide whether Michigan or Ohio would have Toledo in their territory when statehood was declared.

Of course, as everyone knows, Ohio lost.
