Ah, whats $3 / Gallon between friends Keep in mind the D&H lost two of the four initial engines too so this kind of thing does happen. The odds are given the plate is seperated I'm sure it was damaged beyond repair. Keep hoping that there might be some pictures of it before it became lost.
I'm into this discussion late, but sure do remember as a kid, the "40 et 8" car in parades in Little Falls, NY in late 1940's and early 50's. They had a big cannon mounted on it and fired a lot of very scary noisy rounds for us little kids. Must have had rubber tires over the rail wheels, as they were on the city streets. I see that it is stored in Whitesboro, NY making it quite credible, just a few miles from Little Falls. As I recall, it was horse drawn in the parades. That was back when the frogs were our friends.
So that's what the funny looking 4-wheel car in front of the Legion downtown is!!! Dang, I had no idea that it is special like that. Should take some pics.
Looks like a crew car of some sort. Am I correct to assume they went around the system, repairing water tanks, etc? I have seen D&RGW switch type keys labeled for this "use" for sale on railroadiana lists. Boxcab E50
Colorado Central #3447 Ken, I'm not certain about your question but it looks to be correct... [ March 03, 2006, 01:41 PM: Message edited by: Stourbridge Lion ]
I was digging through my old B&W negative box tonight and found this one taken at the Galveston Wharves. Two box cars on some beat up track around 1970.
Here are a few that I have taken in my travels and here at the depot: This is my first time posting things anywhere here so be gentle
