Fatal motor vehicle/train collision, Sackville, N.B.

    The District 4 RCMP is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision on the train tracks near Gayton, N.B. on the outskirts of Memramcook, N.B. on January 6, 2005 at 11:45pm.

    The victim and lone occupant, a 46-year old man from Salisbury, N.B was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of his injuries.

    The collision occurred when the victim's vehicle was travelling southbound on the train tracks and was struck by a train. The incident occurred on the CN train tracks approximately 0.9km south of Highway #2 between Gayton and Memramcook. The Memramcook Fire Department were also on the scene.
    The victim was thrown from the vehicle as the vehicle was pushed back several hundred feet. Police are still investigating the incident along with CN Police to try to determine why the vehicle was on the train tracks.

    Usually the cause of something like this is excessive consumption of spirits. I fear this will be proven by the investigation.
