Does anyone know much about the farmrail GP10s? I am thinking about doing an N kitbash, but am not real sure about the details. Does anybody out ther have any info.? thanks in advance!!!!!!
Here is a site you can go to for some pics- it's the Southwest Rails website. Click on "Farmrail/Grainbelt", and you'll get pictures. IIRC, Oddballs Decals makes decal sets for Farmrail locomotives.
And here is a motive power roster from another source. As you'll notice by reading this list, FMRC/GNBC uses the names of each Indian tribe that lives or has lived in Oklahoma.
Model Railroader did an article as part of their old 'a railroad you can model' series in the May '92 issue. The locos are most probably ex-IC/ICG Paducah-builts and there is a bit out there on the net on these. Check my own pages for the TC&W GP10's under modelling projects. http://www.pnc.com.au/~audiosat/models/projects/tcwgp10.htm
thanks guys!!! i'll have to see if i can get a back issue of that mr issue. would be a neat model to have, and i could get double duty out of my grain cars i have for my kcs drag. even better that it is a fairly close road to where i live. good regional flavor
Hmm... Tom may have had the FarmRail decals set for screen printing only. The last I knew he was using the ALPS printers for all new designs and converting his old sets for printing on this. The FR decals would have been a low turnover set at any rate. Did Tom suggest he may do a special run for you?
tom didn't seem inclined to, but if i can get a few shots, a guy in my trainclub has an alps and i could probably get him to do it. with the color scheme, i might even be able to do it on my hp printer using those testors do it yourself decal kits, but i don't know if they work well or not. i truly appreciate the info & suggestions!!
According to the info on his website, he doesn't do special runs. However, were the demand to increase, that particular set could re-appear. Your best bet is your buddy with the ALPS printer. Speaking of GP10s, Kaslo Shops is supposed to come out with a cast-resin shell in HO scale for a GP10, supposedly to fit on the Proto2000 GP7 chassis. Several variations, all chopped hoods, but a wee bit pricey (asking price is 100 bucks).
that does sound a bit high, but its also about double the size i need . thanks for the info. & input. it's definitely appreciated!!
I model in HO, and the price is a bit steep for me, too. That's why I chop the noses on Geeps myself. For an N scale GP10, definitely go to Gary's TC&W website- his work and how-to is nicely done, and I learned a trick or two I applied to HO scale.
