Just wondering, has anyone bashed an Amtark F40 cabbage unit? Anyone have any tips on how this might be done?
Richard, I have started working on one, mostly just gathered materials to this point. The main areas from my perspective are: 1. The roll doors. These are your standard run-of-the-mill Overhead Door Co. metal rollup doors. I am using some leftover doors from a Bachmann car repair building kit. These go on both sides. 2. The roof. During the conversion, all of the fans and other roof details were removed and replaced (best I can tell) with flat sheet metal. I don't have good top photos but I plan to just cover the roof with styrene, paint it black and call it a day. 3. Decals. I believe the appropriate decals can be found in the Microscale F40PH set, but I haven't done extensive research on this. Basically, the numbers are the former locomotive number with a "90" prefix, if I recall. I am using a dummy Life-Like for my first attempt, although I may make a powered version at a later date. There are things about the model itself that I will correct, such as filling in the pilot, converting to M-T, etc. Eventually I may look into some lighting effects as well. I am not trying to make a superdetailed, super-accurate version but simply capture the look. Hopefully others can chime in with more information.
