F3's 5005 and 5007 were involved in an accident which resulted in them being rebuilt as F9Am's (shipped back to Frisco Feb 1954). I can't find any ICC report for any wreck involving these locos. Does anyone know the date, location, and cause of this accident?
Larry, Let me check out the book Frisco Diesel Power by Marre, et al. Also, I'd suggest asking the folks at http://www.frisco.org or frisco@nshore.net (the online FMIG list). I'll let ya know what I find.
Well, so much for that search. All I know about 5005 and 5007 is that prior to 1954 they were involved in a wreck (wrecks?), and were shipped to EMD for rebuild to F9 standards. They returned to Frisco property in March 1954, and were the only A units with dynamic brakes, making them capable of mating with the F9Bs. Both were retired on July 12, 1973, and traded in to EMD. I couldn't find any info on the wrecks.
There is a photo of an F-unit that hit the dirt in Hoffsomer's book "The Quanah Route." I don't recall what the lead unit # was. Don't know if this might be related to the question here or not, or what happened to that unit(s).
