Matt and I finally got round to going for a drive to Essendine today. A lot of activity. Mostly passenger so that kept me happy :teeth: These 2 shots were taken at Greatford level crossing. It was non stop here.. But when we got furthur up the road to the bridge, it was the opposite.. Like all the trains had gone into a big black hole in those 3 miles!
And this 158 heading in the opposite direction. What I never saw til after taking the shot was that the 2 rear units were in fact a 170 hooked up to it. These pics have come out a bit blurry.. But it's not like this one was going too fast!! :teeth:
I saved the best til last, although this is not the best shot of a 91 I've taken.. Alan this is just for you xx Matt's going to try and get some on here too later on..
Fantastic!!!!!!! Look forward to seeing more and more... :lightbulb: :lightbulb: :lightbulb: :lightbulb:
Caught this 66, its a poor pic (still trying to get used to the delay in digital photography). Quite a rare loco so I am told before it goes to work on the London underground.
Matt, some (most?) digital cameras have a two-position shutter button. You push the button half-way down to allow the auto-exposure and auto-focus functions to do their thing which takes a second or two like you say. Then you push the button all the way home to trip the shutter, which is instantaneous. This way, when you hear a train coming, just aim the camera at the point you want the photo and press the button half-way down. Hold it this way until the train is in the frame...then push it home. The shutter will trip instantly. You can hold it in the half-way position for quite a long time, the time varies from camera to camera, but it can be a minute or more. Takes a little practice...BTW, I like your and Carolyne's photos, thanks.
Great pictures! A bit late coming to this topic, but the pictures are great. That was a good catch of the Metronet 66, only been in the country a matter of days! It and four others will be working on the London Underground rebuilding starting in the summer, hence the branding "Metronet - Renewing the Tube" on the sides. I believe a few more are coming from Canada for this contract. These BGRf locos will be dedicated to the contract and have some internal modifications to allow them onto underground lines. They are also limited to 15mph as they do not have the tripcock mechanism used on the tube. They also have the new low-emission engines.
Nice paint schemes on those trains. I really do not need to be seeing yet another prototype worth pining for. Thanks for posting. I have one question. Is it you who drags him out train watching or the other way around? lol
Thankfully we're both as keen to go out railfanning as each other.. Although I like to catch more passenger units and he prefers the freight.
Alan, When I visited Ipswich on the 29th I saw 2 of these 66's sitting just north of Peterborough station.
Carolyne, what kind of camera is that? Is Matt using a different type? I got frustrated with the delay too, so cured the problem by purchasing a DSLR. :teeth:
Matt uses a Fuji finepix 1300. Not the most up to date camera but it does the job - just. Mine is an Olympus C150 which was a Xmas present from work a few yrs back. The only problem with mine is that it takes a while from taking one shot to be ready to take another. I can shoot movies on mine which is an added bonus. Soaks up the memory though.
