Go to research library. Then look at AREA Proceedings (i.e. American Railway Engineering Association) from volume one forward to whatever era in the epoch interests you. Use the indices of each volume to find roundhouse/loco shop articles and discussions. If your local library does not have same they can use interlibrary loan to get them for you to access. Any engineering school will have them. Good-Luck, PJB
Cutting torches; heavy duty jacks; hoists and pullies; overhead cranes; drill presses; huge lathes; grinders; air hammers; welding equipment; large wrenches; boring mills; forging hammers - huge ones. Many of these machine tools would have been in the machine shop attached to the side or in back of the roundhouse.
Go to; http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?t=57451&highlight=roundhouse+pueblo The first half of the article is building the roundhouse and the second half has a lot of the stuff that would go inside.
WOW!!! That's the stuff I was talking about!!! Once again I am totally humbled - what incredible detail - and in N scale!!! mg::teeth:
Yeah...no kidding. As my teenaged son would say "that is sick Phat!!" translating into "that is about the coolest I have ever seen." Clearly if that can be done in N, I have a lot of work ahead of me in O John
This is what I like about this place, Questions, then answers. I thank you, or perhaps I don't thank you, since I just went over to my layout and saw from a distance that my engine shed was devoid of anything but a track.
If you look in the O scale forum in my thread "what I've been up to" it will make you feel a lot better. Progress is SLOW... John
John- Some would say the misfortune of others makes my day during the week at work. HOWEVER, on the weekends, I feel your pain.
Well, I have been researching old photos of the inside of the Como roundhouse. Luckily there are a lot of equipment shots and I think I can replicate most of it from my junk box...time is of course a factor. The interior will have to wait till much further down the line (guess the roof WILL be removable after all) as I need to move forward with framework, wiring and start module 2...gotta get the trains running now John
Round House Here is a link to my G scale round house, it might help out. http://eclipseauctions.us/davp/page6.html The main page urlis: http://eclipseauctions.us/davp/
THAT is too cool...and in G as in "Gee Whiz I an't believe the detail!!" Is the machinery scratch built too? John
