Does anyone know if it is possible to find employee records from the early 1900's? I have family that worked on the lines from Nyack to Whitefish, MT and I would love to find their employee records if possible. Thanks for any help or suggestions! Debbie
Hi Debbie welcome to the forums. Try rrb.gov. Thats the Railroad Retirement Board. They do records searches but it will cost you some money.Hope this helps.
This is really something and I can't help Debbie but She is asking for historical info and the person who is answering is from the QCA. The reason this is something is that fireball- is from QCA (Hello Quad Cities)LOL and a number of years ago a man who ran a train store in the Illinois QCA had thousands of records and files from The Rock Island Line that he and others collected when the Railroad closed and left the buildings unattended. Too bad He is not that guy and she isn't looking for Rock info.
I wonder if someone at the GN Ry Historical Society would have a lead? I know there is stuff stored in the depot at Whitefish. Under control of the Stumptown Historical Society. But, I don't know what. I am sure that members there don't know either. Boxcab E50
Fireball, Great name btw! Thanks for the suggestion...however it didn't pan out. I checked the website and it says that they only have information on employees after 1939. But great idea anyways...I have some family after that time that I would like records for also some day. So thanks for the tip!
LOL! Yea that would be great if he was that guy and I was looking for info from there huh? Ah well...I might be able to hunt it down anyways. At least you gave me a tip that I might have to look outside the box...car, ahem, in order to find what I'm looking for. (I know, it's probably a really bad joke but couldnt' resist...it was there!)
Hey great ideas!! I have a cousin living in Whitefish and I think I'm going to have to have her go on a...can I have a drum roll here please...fishing expedition at the HS! Gads, I really got to get more sleep...been up going on 36 hrs straight...
Hello Quad Cities!! LOL SCreen I wish it was ME! Wow all that info. But I digress. I didnt know RRB had a cut off but it sounds like you have more leads. Let us know!
