It's been over 2 years since I have sold anything on eBay. I have about 50 N scale engines(high end Kato, Atlas) purchased in the late 90's. These are new in the box. What is the best time of the year to start listing this stuff. Is there a really 'hot' time of the train season to start listing this stuff? Jim
You might do better listing your loco's in the Yellow Forum on Trainboard. It doesn't cost a thing to try that first. Stay cool and run steam....
I haven't listed anything in a long time either and I defer to those with more experience. But I would say: First: Nov-Dec; Christmas Second:Jan-Feb; Cold weather season Third: Aug-Oct; school starts...get back to hobbies Spring Break to Labor Day (April-Aug): Not so good. I now do all my infrequent listing on Yellow Forum.
Right now is a pretty good time. From Nov. through late Apr. are generally pretty active with the highest prices. May through Oct. are pretty slow and generally won't get as much action. It does depend on what you have though. Your Katos will be pretty consistent no matter when you sell them. The Atlas will vary quite a bit, depending on model and road name. As the others have pointed out, trying on the Yellow board here first doesn't cost anything, and can save you $4 to $5 in eBay fees on one $50 sale
Well, if you don't want to use the Yellow Forum- From my experience, there are some slow times every year on eBay. From about Christmas, into February. Then at tax time. Again after school is out it can slow. But when it's time to spend money on the late summer vacation/back to school shopping, again it slows. But you do have us wondering what all would be available? If you sold on eBay you probably then have some idea of what to expect to get. All the Yellow Forum needs is a good basic description with a price and the folks here are eddicated enuf to email you with any questions, if any. A lot better than fielding sometimes very strange questions on eBay, for one. Either you get your price (and a lot does sell pretty quickly on the YF when reasonably priced), or if not, you go on to the eBay process as Powersteamguy noted.
