April 1984, one of only two times I was able to catch a SSW/SP GP30. This time crossing Valley Junction in East St. Louis Illinois.

No kidding...just driving through that town gave me and my girlfriend the heebee jeebees...it has to be one of the most depressing towns in the US, very sad...I don't know what the place looks like now..but then it resembled a town in the Middle East...there were so many buildings vacant...being torn town, burned out etc...EEK is right!

Agreed on E St Louis. I crossed from the west side to the east side walking on the first bridge built across the Mississippi south of Minneapolis. It is the one (I think) just north of the arch. The bridge was closed except to foot traffic. When I got to the east side, I decided that I might not be able to out run everyone I met over there, so I went back. It did look pretty bad.
