    Lets see your picture of the early BN, I would post mine but I was not born until 1980. I find the first decade very interesting because of the varied paint schemes, F units and cabooses, I am starting to sell off my modern BN so I can concentrate on modeling 1975'ish.

    Unfortunately, I was so disinterested in BN, that I did not take ny photos until the late 1970's. And those are all slides. So, some day, I must get a decent scanner...

    70's BN

    Ask and you will recieve. The photos are mine from www.Trainpix.com that were taken in the Portland-Vancouver area. Trainpix is one of the best sites for BN photos.

    Just got to poke around and see everything else early BN there as well!

    I agree with you. If I was starting over I would model 74-75. Lots of patch jobs plus brand new SD40-2. Could also throw in the Bicentenial units.

    Probably why I keep thinking of modeling at the very latest of 1992, whitefaces are coming in, and still can have my fleet of SD40-2s...what I like them...

    Right now I'm doing 1995, but keep thinking of going back a few years.

    Other times I think of doing 2 eras, early 80s and 92 to 95.

    I've chosen the period 1978-1982 quite carefully :) OK, so it's 5 years, but building styles don't change that rapidly, and it allows me to run quite some different combinations of equipment, including:

    * Pre- and post-merger Frisco, incl GP15-1, MP15DC and Geeps up to the GP50 in either livery.
    * U25B in Frisco colours

    * GP7, GP9, some were retained past 1982 even, but most exited in 81/82.
    * F7B
    * RS3 (!) The last were withdrawn in 1980.
    * SD24 ... I have a picture of a nice SD24 and 2* SD45 lash-up, with the SD24 leading!
    * C636 These were withdrawn in 1980.

    * SD40-2 and F45 (of course)
    * U30C/C30-7 etc in big consists (the latter introduced in 1979)
    * Other GE power such as B30-7A (introduced in 1982)

    Cheers,

    Colin

    Don't forget the RS-11 and the C424 & C425 units. They also lasted until 1980

    Colin was it pretty close. I model 85 for the same reasons. SD9's still there, as well as GP18's, F45, sd45, sd40 plain, etc. C30-7 hit our rails in 76 though. And no pale faces allowed! But I can have the Tigers, though I have chosen not to. GP9 still there but no 7's. I have the F7's in Marias til 81. Pool power like crazy in the PRB. OK too much reflecting, miss the BN for sure now.

    I have more reasons for 78-82...

    * Soo Line RS-27's (The Dolly Sisters, scrapped in May '81)
    * Milwaukee Road still in existence (including SDL39)
    * Frisco flat-car transfer caboose (last used till December '79)

    :)

    Cheers,

    Colin

    I do 86-88.

    Lets me run some older power and a couple of schemes. I can also run some double stacks.

    GP9s some were around until 1990
    SD9s some are still around
    SD45 and F45 left in 86

    LMX B39-2s
    Oakway SD60s
    Tiger stripe SD60s and GP50s

    I made up for the lack of Alcos by making a fictional short line.
