Rumors going around that VIA Rail Canada may pull the plug on The Malahat if the Southern Railway of Vancouver Island doesn't fix up the track. Apparently track conditions south of Duncan to Victoria are so poor that SVI doesn't want to send the GP9's south of Duncan for fear of them derailing. The VIA Budds are breaking suspension springs almost every day.
Isn't SVI part of the Washington Rail group? If so, shouldn't there me more than enough $$$$ flow in the bank with how well that MRL is doing to make the necessary repairs?
