Never replaced trucks or wheelsets before. Have one Atlas with no longer attached wheels and one Bachman with broken truck. Both are from tenders. Would a freight car tender be appropriate if I'm not a nitpicker ?:we2-policeman:

    Welcome to TrainBoard!

In model railroading, there are no dumb questions. Except those not asked- Which can cost you time, money and frustrations.

I have the record of the dumbest question.....

    Retired Lawman,

No question you ask is dumb, for we have all asked them, and still ask them, so they are not dumb, really. Welcome to N scale, and I sure hope your adventure is a worthwhile one. Although not as exciting or challenging as your profession was, but still plenty enough to keep you interested.

For the record, the dumbest question I ever asked was......

One of my first steamers after getting wholly into N after my initial diesels was a Rivarossi Berkshire, a truly beautiful steam locomotive which I still have and run often. I bought it used for $50 and took it home to run it. I was very quiet, so I took it back and asked the hobby shop guy why the darn thing was so quiet. Aren't trains supposed to be noisy?

If you are NOT a rivet counter...any truck from anything else should work just fine...JMO...YMMV.

    A Lawman with a dumb question...:tb-biggrin:
Sorry I just got a good giggle out of that one :tb-biggrin:
    *no harm...no foul...welcome to TrainBoard...LOL

It depends what type of truck was previously installed.. most of the time there are replacements that can be found..

Welcome to TB. Feel free to ask many more questions.

A girl in my drivers ed class asked if we were suppose to stop at stop signs. Now THAT is a stupid question. The number one rule here is that there are no rules. And welcome aboard. I consider myself the Forest Gump of model trains. This is the best place on the planet to be when it comes to trains. You're right at home here.

It depends on the model whether a freight truck is OK. Most of the newer Bachmanns have pickups for track power in the tender.....but older models don't. Most Atlas steam engines are older models and you should be fine with a frieght truck. Welcome aboard, and as a suggestion, always give as much info as possible when asking questions. There are A LOT of variables that can affect the answer you get.

    Guys-

If the tender was used for pickup, we are going to have a lot of red faces around here.

Lawman- Please advise exactly which Bachmann and Atlas tenders we are talking about. If you do not know, please describe how many wheels on each locomotive. Also, please post a picture of a side shot for each loco and tender and especially a bottoms up shot of each tender. This will give a clue if the wheels are picking up juice from the tracks.

True...but even if the trucks are used for electrical pickup...there are some other trucks from other manufactures/cars with pickups on them that would work.

You are correct though...more info from the OP would be nice :)

No ,in Georgia there is no law that requires one to stop at a stop sign. I know, I got that charge dismissed. Georgia law requires one to obey a stop sign, traffic light, yield signs etc.
Georgia law states that when a stop sign is encountered, the driver must stop at the crosswalk, painted line or as near the intersection as possible without fouling cross traffic.
No requirements to stop at the stop sign. SO that was not a dumb question.
How would you stop at a stop sign if it was across the road, a commom occurence, same for redlights.
