The angle bracing seems to be right for DRGW, but as you say, too many stakes...

Okay - so looking at my NG Pictorial Vol III I see that on pages 87-88 we have the same gondolas seen at the link Jason provided above.

So looking further I see that:

    http://drgw.free.fr/DRGW/Freight/Gondola/Tombereau_en.htm

    We have:

Also in 1955, the D&RGW had 20 40ft standard gauge box cars transformed into open end gondolas to carry drilling pipes. They received narrow gauge Bettendorf trucks and were numbered from 9600 to 9619. Six of these gondolas have been converted to open observation cars for the Silverton train in 1963 and 1967. The remaining cars were also converted to open observation cars later, for the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad as well as two for the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad.

    Dan,

That is absolutely correct. There were two types of pipe being shipped: those for use on the drilling rigs and those used in the construction of pipeline. The latter of these was very common. I wonder if we are looking at two separate builds for specific pipe type?

That is very interesting! For Nn3, Z scale Bettendorfs would be in order...and for HOn3, Sn3, On30, and On3, C&S trucks would work (presuming that they were the same wheelbase).

What I find most interesting is that the link I attached above is from France!

Am trying to bring myself to cut up some more MT gons.......these things aren't cheap anymore. That RLW kit is starting to look pretty good.Speaking of RLW, has anyone attempted building Goose 6 kit? I just couldn't refuse buying it,wondering what type of wheels etc to use.YahooNn3?

I can recall a discussion about it (or a goose) on the Nn3 yahoo group. The discussion was about setting up some instructions. All I remember from the discussion was that you only have one or two tries to bend the etches for the hood. After that, it will break.

I've been thinking about one of their 2-8-2s, 2-6-0s, or 4-6-0s. Problem is, I don't want to spend that kind of money on a non-On3 item for now. I really ought to build my two cars first.
