I'm headed to CheyOming in a week, for some R&R. I'm hoping to see her there!

I can confirm her location: UP Steam shop. The bad news is that her paint is so wasted, that it would require grinding/sandblasting all the paint off to bare metal to get it smooth, for repainting; therefore the I doubt a repaint is in 5371's future.:(

Yep I went up there today for a tour. She is resting happily in the Steam Shop.

Asked the guys there what her future was, first thing I head was "Paint it Yellow?"

haha....not funny. He said Utah was the thinking, I was hoping she would head up to Golden Colorado (although they already have a GP30, I hope to fix that up if they will let me volunteer)

They were hoping that they could use her as a switcher, thats a hell of a switcher, but if it keeps her inside, that works with me. I didnt get a chance to get a picture of the interior, but I did get to go and sit in the engineers seat, she is in pretty good shape. several of the windshield wipers are worn, there is a piece of duct tape covering a hole in the ceiling. The paint is bad. up close, it feels like turtle skin or something

She could use a coat of paint, but they are keeping her inside for now, so that will help. I have some pictures if anyone wants

    WillGant-

    Welcome to TrainBoard!

At least she's inside. So there might be a small ray of hope.

    It's actually the base primer...

Paint method would have been black first...

I tried not to drool too much on the 5371, but here's a pic (w/ more to come!):

I certainly didn't believe it was rust.

IIRC, there's a few small patches of rust just under the DB grids:

Woooooow!!! Nice pics, and from all of us, thanks a million! Thank the good Lord, (and the Steam Crew) for grabbing her up! Don't they have the first SD40 there too? I would love to roam around there and take in the sights!

No SD40's. Plenty of 'Deuces work the yard in RC mode, however. That place is a veritable history book. 2-10-2, 4-8-4, E9's, Centennial, Challenger, cabeese, passenger cars, support cars, rotary snowplows, you name it, they just about have it all!

And all it's gonna do is sit outside and rust!!
They've got no money to fix that stuff up!
I've heard interesting things about the stuff there.
Much of it not good. Folks in charge even worse!!
This from a highly reliable source, and good friend!!

    Counting My Pennies

:tb-biggrin: *scrapes some coins together* :tb-err:Hmm...$1.73...That buys one half gallon. I get about 17 MPG... Dang! :tb-mad: I think it might be a while before I get up there.

Like all of you I too am glad that it has escaped the cutters torch (so far) and that the buckets of yellow paint have yet to be sloshed on. As far as preservation of it and the other equipment there, is there any hope of a Historic Fund grant either from the State Preservation Office or even higher up on a Federal level? This stuff is important to our history and it would be a shame to see it go the same way that most steam equipment went...cut up for scrap.

I never realized the unit numbers were applied above the rear lights:
