Hello, does anybody know if there is an N scale model of the delorian type car that was in the back to the future movies? i would like to attempt constructing my own time machine car. I think it would add something interesting to my layout. Has anybody else done something similar and built a model of something they saw in a movie and liked?

    Steve,
I have not seen one yet. There is a sever lack of modern vehicles in N scale. :( The DeLorian is just one of the many that is probably missing. Keep us posted on what you come up with.

You can find N Scale telephone booths in etched brass to make a TARDIS, Time And Relative Dimentions In Space [IMG]

But seriously, You might try to find a hot wheels size Delorian and use it as the model to carve the basic car body from balsa or resin [IMG] then spray with a few heavy coats of paint before adding your details.

UP Steve....My son has a Micro Machines car that looks an awful lot like the DeLorean, probably a Maserati or a Deablo. Has kind of exagerated looks as most Micro Machines cars do, and this one is black. With a little work and paint you could time warp it to the right car...

I'd offer to send it to you for free 'cepting postage from NYC to Australia probably not be worth it for a 50 cent item...

Micro-Machines did make a Back-To-The_Future set way back when the movies were new, I used to have one.

Thank you all for the replies! I took a trip to my local hobby shop today, unfortunately they didnt have any N scale cars at all, they dont stock much in the way of trains. I think i might have to try and find a reasonable toy similar to a delorain, perhapes micro machines. or i will go to my favorite hobby shop, and buy a similar vehicle, and modify it as need be. Now i have to make a choice, bus to the shoping center, or the train to the hobby shop [IMG]

one option that could be feasible is if you know of a place that does rapid prototyping( stereolithography???) basically sing a laser to make a prototype from resin. where i work we get some electronics housings made that way before we spend serious $$ for injection molded parts. Cost depends on height of the part. Most places take CAD models and directly use them. Could be pricy, but for small intricate work, it could be very feasible, depending on your budget. have been considering getting some construction equipment done that way for a flatcar load, but that is a ways in the future. just free information offered freely. I could model the train, and the car, and have an incomplete bridge and recreate the scene from the movie where the train goes off the end. But i wouldnt want to destroy such a nice loco! [IMG] . Having that rapid prototyping laser thing done would most likely be out of my budget, which is unfortunately very low :( . I suppose i will have to see what happens. This may be a project that will be on the shelf for a while

    UPS,
I understand the budget wholeheartedly :D :D :D , but for a part about 2" x 2" x 1", it was less than $200 (well less i believe, but i'm not certain). while this is substantial $$$, it is less than a lot of locomotives and other model items i have seen. like i said, just an idea.

Unfortunately, this is one area where N scale is lagging behind the larger scales. I am extremely disappointed in the variety and quality of N scale vehicles currently being offered. I realize that some manufacturers are working on this but there is an extremely long way to go to get even close to the diversity of vehicles offered in the larger scales.
