Howdy all!! This past saturday I went to a train show in Houston. One of the guys I work with has a 14 year old son, who just thinks my layout is the coolest ( that is a direct quote)LOL. Took him with me, his parents gave him money to spend. I thought the whole time, that he would go the way of the dark side(HO). But was surprised to see him looking at N scale locos!!!!! He chose a Atlas sd-60 that was DCC ready. To make the long story short. The loco and Digitrax drop in decoder cost him about 70$ total. Heck of a deal. Well here is a pic of him enjoying his new purchase on my industrial section. I swore I would never allow the putrid yellow and gross gray on my track.LOL But now he is running my SOO grain train, with SOO/CP power, he is learning,LOL.. Soooo, don't I get a brand new loco or something else by introducing some one new to the great world of N scale??? Come on, just a little something. Pleaseeeeeeeeee!!! Adios Wyatt
How's about a pat on the back??? IF I can figure out how to pack and ship one!! Otherwise, send yourself an empty box, open it, give yourself a pat on the back, and say "Good job." and you'll have your award??
Wyatt, You did get something. Another operator. How is staging comming along. I am back down in Hood next week. We'll have to get together again. I am bringing some stuff with me to TX to work on since I am familyless for a few weeks. Maybee some cascade green will look good on your layout. Tony

SOme of Lupe's tamales from a nice little hole-in-the-wall restaurant in downtown Sherman (the rest of their menu is muy bueno as well) should do the trick......alas, the only red & white I have is Frisco.
Greg, It's great to see someone new introduced to our hobby, with time I'm sure your new operator willl earn to run the layout and even help you with projects.
I seriously wonder if he should be thanking you or cursing you. Model railroading is a surly mistress at best. She's an expensive girlfriend too. There are cheaper habits. I have a friend who refers to his train habit as is heroin addiction because of how much money he spends weekly on traincars and such. Seriously now, Model railroading is a good life skills learning place for teens. i think you did good.
Since when is someone or something worth keeping around NOT expensive? LOL!!!! Seriously, yes, this hobby can rack up the dollars, but it can also be as inexpensive as you want it to be. My shopping habits are simple: thou shalt not pay retail I've bought more used stuff these last few years than new, and have reworked what I need to to get what I want. This young fella is starting off on the right path, as this hobby will require a lot of skills- carpentry, electrical work, electronics, painting, architecture, scenery work, etc. , not to mention the patience of Job (yes, I know Job eventually lost his cool & challenged the Big Guy, but it took him a long time to get there). Now comes the hard part- balancing the hobby with girls (who can make this hobby seem real cheap by comparison)
